Customers Bank recently announced the news they have secured a 650,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant for Safe Haven sponsored by Hope Rescue Mission, an affordable housing development in Reading. This grant has been sanctioned from the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLBank) of Pittsburgh.
Based in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, Customers Bank is a bank subsidiary of Customers Bancorp Inc and has business leaders like Bhanu Choudhrie amongst its board of members. It is a community based service bank, renowned for providing proficient and user-friendly services to its customers.
“Customers Bank is pleased to build up our partnership with Hope Rescue Mission and support the vision of Rob and his team,” said Richard Ehst, President and COO of Customers Bank. “This is a critical project and we appreciate the support of our partners at the FHLB of Pittsburgh in approving our application for this investment in the Berks County community.”
Established in 1894, Hope Rescue Mission has helped numerous economically backward people by offering its efficient residential programs. The aim of these residential programs is to make them productive and independent enough to lead their own life. By supporting Hope Rescue Mission, Safe Haven Project will be providing 117 affordable housing units and shelters to low income residents.
“Homelessness is a problem that affects the entire community,” said Rob Turchi, Executive Director of Hope Rescue Mission. “Partners like Customers Bank help us provide critical programs and services to help homeless individuals find housing, employment and the help they need to get back on their feet. This is how we build thriving communities.”
Under this humanitarian project the first three floors of a building currently housing the Hope Rescue Mission located on North 6th Street in Reading, Pa will be rebuilt. Besides the economic aid, spiritual and emotional support will also be provided so that residents can lead their life in a right direction.
Providing food, clothing, and shelter to almost 70 men on the daily basis, Safe Haven Project has showcased exemplary work. The project also provides social services and programs to low-income residents.
